Bucchianico badlands

The Site of Community Importance ripe dello Spagnolo or Bucchianico badlands covers 180 hectares ranging from 150 to 318 m above sea level, near Bucchianico. It contains areas of high naturalistic importance as the impressive ravines and a stretch of the Alento river. There are various species of the Mediterranean maquis (broom, thistle, orchids), while the badger and the beech marten stand out among wildlife. In the Alento river live the common barbel and the Italian crested newt live.
