Monastery of San Giovanni in Venere, Fossacesia

The Monastery of San Giovanni in Venere (Venus) in Fossacesia dates back to XIII century, though later it was often restored. It should rise up on an early Christian temple of VI-VII century. In 1165, the construction of the monastic complex started for want of Abbot Odorisio II: the abbey and the friary with its wonderful cloister.

Stated in 1881 “national monument”, the monastic complex is cited also by the UNESCO journals.
