Forest of Sant’Antonio, Pescocostanzo

The Forest of Sant’Antonio is located at about 1300 m above sea level between Pescocostanzo and Cansano, in the Province of L’Aquila, in the Majella National Park. It is a Nature Reserve 70 ha wide.

An atavistic and wise respect of the local population and a more recent regulation of the visitors’ access providentially preserved this forest from insane exploitation and usurpation. That is why hiker gets surprised in front of the conformations of many monumental and ancestral beech trees called patriarchs. In a forest clearing there is the hermitage of Sant’Antonio.
