Pietre Cernaie

Pietre Cernaie is an upland on the Majella massif, more precisely on Mount Secine, a naturalistic passageway between the Majella National Park and Abruzzo National Park, within the territories of Palena (Province of Chieti) and Rivisondoli (Province of L’Aquila).

In about two hours hike, through a path that starts at km 5,3 on the road in between Roccaraso and Palena and goes gradually up, in a 420 m total gradient, it is possible to get to the wide grassland dominated by the rocky ramparts of Pietre Cernaie and where the source of Fonte Cernaia also springs. The place may be marshy in spring and sultry in the summer peak hours.
