Wild Boar (sus scrofa) is a wild pig. The adults can be 180 cm long, about 1 metre tall and weigh about 1 quintal. It moves in large herds. It is omnivore.
With the decline of its natural predators (wolf, lynx and bear) the wild boar proliferates undisturbed in the broad-leaved forests on Abruzzo mountains and hills, causing serious damages to the crops. It is the writer’s opinion that through the correct population control of this species the relations among the farmers, the wildlife and the National Parks may improve.
