Sirente-Velino Regional Park

The Sirente-Velino Regional Park, institued in 1989 by the Abruzzo Region, is situated in the Province of L’Aquila. It is about 56.000 hectares broad, including the Sirente and Velino mountains, the Gorges of Celano, Stiffe Caves, Rocche plateau and Piani di Pezza.

The Park headquarters are located in Rocca di Mezzo. Others villages are: Celano, Fontecchio, Pescina, Ovindoli, Molina Aterno, Gagliano Aterno, Magliano dei Marsi, Tione degli Abruzzi, Massa d’Albe, Ocre, Castelvecchio Subequo, Secinaro, Cerchio, Fagnano Alto, Collarmele, Aielli, Acciano, Rocca di Cambio, Castel di Ieri and Goriano Sicoli.

Sirente-Velino Regional Park protects many floristic and arboreal species. Marsican brown bear, Apennines wolf, wild cat, golden eagle, eagle owl and griffin are the outstanding fauna that live in the park.
