Villalago is located in the Province of L’Aquila, in the High Gorges of the Sagittario river (Gole del Sagittario), 930 m above sea level.

The village is spread on the eastern side of Mount Argatone. It belongs to the club of Borghi più Belli d’Italia (Italian most beautiful villages). The Medieval Tower, the old Town Hall, the little church of San Michele, the church of Madonna Addolorata (Mourning Mary’s church) and the lake and Hermitage of San Domenico are worth visiting.

In clear days, from the top of Mount Argatone is possible to see the Abruzzo National Park and Fucino Valley. A panoramic hike leads from the summit of Villalago to the hermitage and lake of San Domenico.
